CHICAGO (WLS) – Father Jesse Jackson of Chicago will receive France’s highest medal, the Legion of Honor.

Father Jackson, 79, will receive the award in France on Monday morning. He has been a civic activist for decades.

French President Emmanuel Marcon said the reverend had constantly campaigned for peace justice and brotherhood, and that the values ​​Jackson promoted were also those of the French republic.

The French government honored the CEO of the DuSable African American History Museum last month. Perri Irmer, the museum’s president and chief executive officer, received the Medal of Arts and Letters. It honors those who have made significant contributions to the arts in France and around the world.
