Time balance

A month in the game in Farming Simulator 22 can last as little as one day, up to 28 days. Just like in real life, the seasons unfold month by month. Whenever you make a change to the in-game dates, it only takes effect when the season moves on. So be careful when you decide to make an adjustment.

The trick for this is to find periods that aren’t so long that it feels like time is dragging, or so short that you can barely get anything done. Seasonal, crops must be planted and harvested at specific times of the year. Best of all, they also sell for the highest prices at specific times of the year. This further emphasizes the need to balance a month’s time in the game.

As for me, I was settled in just three days. None of my farms are unbelievably large, so this gives me enough time to complete the necessary field work without feeling uncomfortably long. The same time period can work in your favor in the early stages of the farm. The main reason behind this is that once you have planted and harvested your crops, you will need to do something while you wait for the next available season to do more fieldwork. This is where the need for real efficiency comes in.

Always busy between seasons

Plants are the biggest easy earner that sims bring. But with the planting and harvesting seasons in effect, you can’t harvest it all as quickly as you used to. Therefore, the time between growing and harvesting cycles requires other types of activities, such as:

• Field care – Whether you plant it in the field or not, weeds will grow. Therefore, you need to pay attention to the condition of your fields and continue to watch out for weeds. Remember, weeders can be used to remove young weeds, but spraying becomes necessary as they mature. You can also plow/plow the empty field next and spread lime if needed.

• Monitor crop price movements – Don’t rush to sell your crop as soon as you harvest it. Check the crop calendar and see the best month to sell your crops. On top of that, crops have different harvesting and growing seasons. So while it may be off-season of one variety, you may be working on growing another. As your farm grows and you buy more land, it will be easier to promote your diversity. But that will take some time, of course. However, even with only a handful of schools, you can still use this strategy.

Just to recap briefly, you should invest in other businesses including new greenhouses, beehives and tried-and-tested industries of livestock and forestry. The latter two require a lot of initial investment and are very practical. They will take time to not just build and learn, and you can’t just put an AI Worker to handle most tasks. This will save you money and give you something to do when your fieldwork is on hold. Greenhouses and beehives do not require much attention at all. Greenhouses only need to be supplied with water from time to time and the bees don’t need anything. Once you set up these structures on your land, you can simply use your pickup or trailer to transport the automatically generated pallets of produce. They will continue to produce throughout the year in the game. Performing contract work for other farmers is another way to earn extra money.

• Return of rental equipment sitting – As mentioned in money saving guiderental equipment costs will increase over time. Depending on the value of the device, daily costs can run into the hundreds and their multiples will quickly drain your account. You’ll see the effect of this faster with shortened months, because while you can only play a select number of in-game days, the month will still grow naturally. Going back to the aforementioned three-day system, the first day would be at the beginning of the month, the second in the middle, and the third at the end of the month. So fees like licensing will be charged as a block including the actual number of days elapsed. In short, returning rented equipment when you know you won’t be using it for a while reduces costs, saving you money during off-seasons. This ties right back to the last tip on finding alternative revenue streams. As your profits will be less, so should your expenses.
