Fans Wonder Why Michael Keaton’s Batman Kept The Same Batmobile For So Long

The internet has been buzzing for the past few days after a great leak from The Flash shoot. The stealthily taking pictures shows the Batcave, Supergirl in full costume and the classic Batmobile ’89. They’re currently being removed from the internet by Warner Bros through copyright claims, but shouldn’t be too hard to find if you know where to look.

Burtonverse fans are ecstatic the return of the beloved Burtonverse Batmobile, as seen in Batman and Batman is back!. Designers Julian Caldow and Anton Furst’s organic look and feel are unlike anything Batman fans have seen, with subsequent updates in Batman forever and Batman and Robin much less memorable, and Christopher Nolan goes in a completely different direction from Tumbler.

But people have been wondering why Burtonverse Batman has remained the same car for nearly forty years without any obvious visual updates. The most intriguing fan theory is that this Batman retired shortly after the events of Batman is back!, with his Batmobile already in storage should he ever need it again. Or, potentially, it played such an important role in his life’s pivotal moments that he had an emotional attachment to it.

The answer could also be as simple as “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it”, and although the exterior remains unchanged, the interior may have been updated with all sorts of modern technology.

Outside of the film’s fiction, it’s clear that Warner Bros. is trying to blow away audiences’ nostalgia with this. Keaton’s Batmobile remains one of the most popular cars ever made and has been re-released as model kits, appearing as additional DLC in the hit. Knight Arkham video games and popular appearances at classic car shows.

If Warner Bros wants to stop these leaks, let’s hope we get a teaser trailer showcasing what’s coming on November 4, 2022.
