Hawk Eye finally landed on Disney Plus this morning. The opening episode – “Never Meet Your Heroes” – is primarily an introduction to Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop. We see why she’s inspired to pick up bows, learn about her dubious upper-class family, and see her use her skills in a fantastic fight scene against a goblin team.
Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton only appeared in a handful of scenes in the first episode, but one of them was destined to become the all-time MCU comedian. As revealed in the trailer, he’s on ‘Rogers: The Musical’, a Broadway tribute to Captain America. We see a seriously annoyed Clint in the audience, crouching in his seat as he cringes in the all-singing, all-dancing version of The Battle of New York.
Here’s how it was received on social media:

But as the cast closes the curtain with “I could do this all day” (which Marvel Studios needs to release in full as soon as possible) there’s also an element of sadness. Throughout the show, Clint couldn’t stop staring at the actor who played Natasha Romanoff, with Renner giving a great performance as he struggled to hold back his grief.
In this scene, we also see that Clint has suffered severe hearing damage: to the point of having to turn off her hearing aids to block the show. The bad vibes continued as he went into the bathroom, where someone had written “Thanos was right” in Sharpie on the urinal. Finally, he couldn’t take it anymore and left the cinema.
This combination of comedy and tragedy works great, and Rogers: The Musical is filled with hilarious little details that require multiple re-watches. Like most people watching this movie, I wanted more – that’s it Marvel, what about releasing more shows as Hamilton-style bonus feature on Disney Plus?
