When you arrive in Eterna City and you begin to explore the Grand Underground in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining pearls, it seems a lot of information is presented to you very quickly and without much depth. The game does not explain in detail what the Diglett bonus does or what it means.
While it may sound confusing at first, the Diglett bonus can be a useful way to increase your luck and get better items. This is what Diglett rewards do in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining pearls.
Diglett gauge filling
As you start running around the Grand Underground, you can see Diglett and Dugtrio hanging around corners and intersections of the map. When you get close to them, they will start to run and will leave a pink sparkle. If you pick up that glitter, the number in the top left corner of the map will increase by one. When the gauge hits 40, the Diglett bonus goes into effect.
The counter is representative of all online player picks, not just your own. When the meter is full, you’ll get a notification that something good could happen.
What happens when the Diglett meter is full?
When the Diglett gauge fills up, something happens to the Grand Underground. First, for those who are mining, there is a good chance of finding a Beautiful Stone Box containing a Shiny Statue. Shiny statues can be used in-game to increase the chances of finding that type of Pokémon in the Grand Underground.
You can check the small orb to the right of your Secret Base’s entrance to see what your statues are doing on the Grand Underground. The more statues of the same type you have in your Secret Base, the more likely those types of Pokémon will start appearing.
One trick to maximize your time digging in the Grand Underground while the Diglett bonus is active is to end your digging as soon as you open the stunning Ice Box. That way you can move on to the next one quickly and get as much as you can during the bonus period.
In addition to increasing the Gorgeous Stone Boxes, the bonus also gives players a chance to find Shiny Pokémon in the Grand Underground while it’s active. If you’re in the room when the bonus activates, be sure to exit the room and then re-enter, as the game determines if the Pokémon Grand Underground is Shiny as soon as you enter the room.
The bonus is only valid for four minutes, and while it may not seem like much, it shows up quite often if you’re in the online Grand Underground where other trainers are finding them.
