Everything you need to know about the Atronach smithy

Forging weapons and armor at a traditional smithy was nothing new to the hardened inhabitants of Skyrim. However, for the magical inclination, there is a much more fun forge to play with. Hidden beneath the College, players can find the Atronach Forge, a magical construction of unknown origin and immense power.
This mysterious magical material appears to be a powerful conduit for Conjuration magic, allowing the Dragonborn to summon Daedra, create magical equipment, and convert mundane items into powerful mysterious ingredients. This is everything Skyrim Players should know about this mysterious setup and what it can do.
How to access Atronach Forge
Atronach Forge is located in in Midden, below University of Winterhold. Once the Dragonborn become a member and are accepted into the College, they can find the entrance to Midden in the north courtyard of the Hall of Elements, or in the Hall of Countenance under the stairs.
Atronach Forge is located northeast of Midden, but be careful when venturing there. Draugr, ice rage and frostbite spiders make Midden their home, so players should be prepared when necessary. At high levels, these creatures shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge, but lower level Dragonborns could be at a disadvantage if they go into the fray unprepared.
Cooking recipe
At Atronach Forge, players can craft magical items and summon creatures. This place is a man’s dream – but unfortunately there is no in-game system for keeping track of recipes like there is for alchemy or alchemy. With that in mind, a guide is provided below on all the recipes a player can use to craft items in the Forge.
Most recipes simply require the Dragonborn to place the necessary ingredients in the supply box and pull the lever. However, a few require Sigil Stone, which must be placed in the pedestal before activating the lever. Unlike the ingredients placed in the supply box, the Sigil Stone will not be consumed, and can be reused as many times as the player likes. This item can be obtained during quests “Conjuration Ritual Magic,” activated by talking to the following Phinis Gestor Reach Injury Level 90.
Summoned Creatures
Mages should exercise caution when using daedra at Atronach Forge – unlike those summoned by spells or scrolls, Atronachs created by forgery and the dremora will not be bound, and will therefore become hostile to the player. Players should be ready to defend themselves or use the Daedra Order or Banish.
The recipes for summoning atronachs are quite simple, although their ingredients can be a bit expensive or difficult to find. Note that for gems, any quality will suffice.
- Flame of Atronach: 1 Ruby, 1 Fire Salts
- Frost Atronach: 1 Sapphire, 1 Frost Salts
- Flame Atronach: 1 Amethyst, 1 Void Salt
To summon a Dremora, Dragonborn will need one Sigil Stone As discussed above. Once activated, the following components must be placed in the supply box:
- 1 skull
- 1 heart Daedra
- 1 of the following: Dog Meat, Pork, Horse Meat, Goat Legs or Mammoths
Spelling Tomes
In keeping with the theme of Atronach Forge, players can create a number of different Conjuration spell themes to perform their skills on the road. All spelling tome recipes require a Book of Ruined, commonly found on bookshelves in the ruins around Skyrim. The other ingredients are all different, as listed below:
- Conjure Flame Atronach: 1 Fire Salt, 1 Dragon Tongue, 1 Bear Cake
- Conjure Frost Atronach: 1 Frost Salts, 1 Frost Mirriam, 1 Ice Wolf Pelt
- Conjure Storm Atronach: 1 Void Salts, 1 Deathbell, 1 Mammoth Tusk
- Soul Trap: 1 Pile of Salt, 1 Torchbug Thorax, any Soul Gem
Roll
Unlike spellbooks, Scrolls do not teach Dragonborn a spell but instead allow them to cast it only once. At Forge, players can craft such items to summon different types of universes. As players might expect, all reels required Paper roll and Charcoal. Then each person takes a different magic salt, depending on the desired composition of the atronach.
- Conjure Flame Atronach: Fire Salt
- Conjure Frost Atronach: Frost Salts
- Conjure Storm Atronach: Salt Void
Eaves
Staves are specialized weapons in Skyrim, there is some cost of a spell instilled in them. For players who want preserve their Magicka while summoning the Atronachs, Forge allows them to create a staff that invokes their summons. Each requires one Broom, presumably to serve as a physical worker, and Soul Gem size Larger or larger. The other ingredients, as usual, vary according to the element of atronach.
- Flame Atronach staff: 1 Frost Salts, 1 Corundum Ore / Ingot
- Frost Atronach staff: 1 Frost Salts, 1 Moonstone Ore Ore / Refined Moonstone
- Storm Atronach staff: 1 Ice Salt, 1 Orichalcum Ore / Ingot
Drugs & Ingredients
Elemental salts are used in some Atronach Forge spells, and even in more alchemy mixtures. They can be a bit difficult to find, but fortunately, players can also craft them at Atronach Forge. Each type of request a pile of salt and a soul gem of any size, as well as a specific gem that varies by salt type:
- Fire Salt: Ruby
- Frost Salts: Sapphire
- Void Salt: Amethyst
Another rare ingredient can also be crafted here: Daedra’s Heart. Like some other Daedric recipes, this recipe requires the use of a Sigil stone, in addition to the following components:
- Human heart
- Black Soul Gem
Finally, another wish for Conjuration mages using Forge, the player can craft a potion called Conjurer’s Elixir, it would greatly enhance the drinker’s Conjuration skill. The ingredients include:
- 1 empty wine bottle
- 1 Ectoplasm
- Any soul gem
Daedric Gear
Usually mage buildings don’t have a place to practice, but Atronach Forge can help make up for that by giving players the chance to magically craft their own gear. To create a part of Unshielded Daedric gears, Dragonborn will need to use Sigil Stone as described above. They must then place the following items in the supply box:
- 1 heart Daedra
- 1 Black Soul Gem, empty or full
- 1 Centurion Dynamo Core
- 1 piece unpainted ebony gear
This process will essentially turn the Ebony item into a Daedric; ie, using Ebony Sword will produce Daedric Sword, Ebony Helmet will produce Daedric Helmet etc. Players can improve and enchant these Daedric items as they choose.
In addition, there is a separate recipe that players can use to create a random Daedric item imbued with a random enchantment. Again, they require the use of the Sigil Stone, as well as the following ingredients:
- 1 heart Daedra
- 1 ebony stick
- 1 Soul Gem, filled with Greater or greater Souls
The final component will depend on whether the player wants to get a weapon or a piece of armor:
- Armor: 1 salt Void
- Weapons: 1 Silver Sword or Great Silver Sword
