Rumors about the Warner Brothers Super Smash Bros.the style game in development came out last month and now the game, called MultiVersus, has been confirmed. In the first trailer, part of the game’s surprising roster was revealed. While WB will release more characters later, some leaks have been confirmed, though not all. Expanding a wide range of franchises, consists of Game of Thrones, Scooby-Doo, and DC comics, the list revealed so far is an interesting, unusual group.
MultiVersus is set for release in 2022, but there will be beta tests before the official launch. This will be a free, cross-platform fighting game that is especially easy to play with friends. In addition to the characters released so far, WB promises to have many additional skins, seasonal content, and of course, more characters. One particular thing about the game that delights fans is the voice cast, many of whom return from the original series to voice their characters. 13 characters have been revealed so far, all of which are explained below.
Game of Thrones: Arya Stark
Game of Throne’s Arya Stark will appear in the game, voiced by Maisie Williams, who played Arya in the TV show. She is an Assassin-type character, with the special moves Face Stealer and Dagger Slash. This version of Arya completed her training in Essos with the Faceless Man, making her a powerful warrior. Her tagline for the game is “She refuses to be a woman. What she becomes is something much more deadly.”
DC Characters: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Harley Quin
Gotham’s Caped Crusader will be voiced by Kevin Conroy in the game, who is famous voiced Batman in Batman: Animated Series. Conroy has done a lot of voice work and is one of Batman fans’ favorite versions of The Dark Knight; he also voiced Batman in Unjust games and Batman: Arkham series. Batman is a Bruiser-type character, and his special moves include Bat-Bomb and Rising Bat.
When there’s Batman in a fighting game, it’s usually safe bet that Superman is there too. MultiVersus’ Superman will be voiced by George Newbern. Newbern voices Superman in Unjust DC series and some animated shows; He is also known for voicing Sephiroth in Final Fantasy franchise, although not in the recent remake of Final Fantasy 7. Superman is another Bruiser, with Ice Breath and Meteor Liftoff as special moves.
Wonder Woman will be voiced by Abby Trott, who has never voiced Amazonian before but has plenty of voice experience. Wonder Woman will be a tank in the game, with special moves Lasso of Truth and Flying Warrior. Final DC character confirmed for MultiVersus so far is Harley Quinn. Outstanding voice actress Tara Strong will return as Harley, having previously voiced her in numerous animated shows and reprising the role from Arleen Sorkin in Batman: Arkham series.
One of the most interesting additions to the cast is Scooby-Doo’s Shaggy, voiced by Matthew Lillard. Lillard played Shaggy in the early 2000s live-action adaptations of Scooby-Doo; Lillard’s version of Shaggy has inspired many internet memes, which the game directly addresses. While Lillard has voiced Shaggy in many animated content, MultiVersus’ Shaggy’s version would be Ultra Instinct Shaggy from the meme with Super Saiyan ability. Shaggy is another Bruiser with ZOINKS! and Power Uppercut.
Steven Universe: Steven and Garnet
Steven Universe and Garnet have the same name from Rebecca Sugar’s Steven Universe will appear in the game. With a dedicated fan base, many will be excited to pilot these two characters, but only Garnet will be voiced by original voice actor Estelle. Steven will be voiced by Daniel DiVenere in his video game debut. Garnet is a Bruiser with Heart Song and Friendship Blast as her special moves, while Steven is a Support character with Bubble Boy special moves! and Shield Stepper.
Adventure Time: Jake and Finn
Prior to Steven Universe, Rebecca Sugar worked on Pendleton Ward’s very popular Adventure Time. Interestingly, John DiMaggio will return to voice Jake and is very well known for his other roles, including Bender in exhibition about the future and Marcus Fenix in Gears of War. Finn’s voice actor, Jeremy Shada, is also back, which is great news for the hardcore Adventure Time fans want to fight with either character. Finn is an assassin with the High Five, Dude! and Backpack ‘Em Up are special moves, while Jake is a Bruiser with special moves Rubber St Gast and Dude !, Stretchin’ Out.
Bunny and Tom & Jerry
Of course, Warner Bros.’s most famous bunny. will also appear in the game, voiced by Eric Bauza. Bauza is Bugs Bunny’s current voice, as well as Daffy Duck and a host of other characters in Cartoon Looney Tunes; he is the 7th person to voice the character since he first appeared in 1938. Bugs will be a Mage/Ranged character with the special moves A Safe Investment and Special Delive-Rocket. The clever and elusive bunny is certainly not the only Looney Tunes character in the game, but as the most popular character it fits into, he was the first announced character.
Ever argued? cat and mouse duo from Tom & Jerry will cooperate as a warrior in MultiVersus. Eric Bauza will also voice Tom and Jerry, two created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Like Bugs, these are Mage/Ranged warriors with Slingshot Sharpshooter and Rocket Mouse as special moves.
Finally, Reindog is an original character from the game, whose real name is unpronounceable. Reindog is a Royal Guard who was somehow separated from his home. Reindog’s special moves include Love Leash, Dude! and Power Crystal, and he’s a Support character. It’s unclear if there will be other original characters in the game, but so far the internet has loved the mysterious Reindog. With more characters to be announced, there are plenty of surprises in store MultiVersus. It is not yet clear if the game is possible comparable to the success of Super Smash Bros., but the lineup so far is certainly compelling.
MultiVersus is set to release in 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Fighting games are a genre – and according to Metacritic, these are the best of the best (all above 90/100).
