‘Enkyboys’ TikTok star Randy Gonzalez warns on social media for colon cancer symptoms, signs of rectal cancer after diagnosis

ALVIN, Texas – TikTok star Randy Gonzalez told ABC13 he was diagnosed with colon cancer more than six months ago, but he’s not giving up.

Known for bringing laughter and joy to millions on social media, Gonzalez is the father of ‘Enkyboys’.

The father of three says he has finally decided it’s time to tell their followers about his stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis.

“He said, ‘No matter what you do, you’re a dead person,'” Gonzalez said, recalling the doctor who first informed him of his diagnosis. “When he told me that, I got lost.”

Gonzalez said doctors told him he only had two to three years to live. He was 33 years old then.

Now the cancer is spreading. He said there was no family history of cancer or colon cancer, but he had struggled with constant stomach pains for many years.

“They don’t know what it is,” Gonzalez said. “They just kept saying it was an ulcer or my gallbladder. They never said anything about colon cancer until I had a colonoscopy.”

Across the country, health professionals have seen an increase in young people with colon or rectal cancer.

According to the Colon Cancer Society, one in five colon cancer patients is between the ages of 20 and 54. The current recommended age for screening is 45 years.

Dr. Omar Madriz, a colon and rectal surgeon at the University of Texas Physicians and Memorial Hermann advises young people to know the warning signs and seek medical attention before age 45. If you have underlying health or genetic factors, that can increase your risk.

“The most important thing in young patients is that anyone can get colon or rectal cancer,” says Dr. Madriz. “The older you get, the higher the risk, but just because you’re younger doesn’t mean you can’t get colon or rectal cancer.”

A study led by the American Cancer Society found that young people born after 1990 have twice the risk of colon cancer and four times the risk of rectal cancer, compared with those born in the late 1990s. 1950.

Dr Madriz said it was not yet known why there was a rise in young people being diagnosed.

“But, we do know that certain factors increase the risk,” Dr. Madriz said. “For example, not moving, not exercising, increased alcohol intake, low fiber diet and increased red meat or fatty foods. We suspect it is multifactorial factors such as genetics and food. However, the specifics we don’t know.”

The Gonzalez family set up a GoFundMe page to help them pay for Randy’s treatment.

You can learn more about colon and rectal cancer by visiting the Colon Caner Coalition website and the American Cancer Society website.

“Don’t ignore your symptoms,” says Dr. Madriz. “Change in bowel habits, abdominal pain, blood in the stool, should not be ignored.”
