Engage Kill Trademarked by Square Enix & Shu by Capcom

We’re on Monday and it’s been a few hours since the clock hit midnight in Japan, so the branding bots have been updated and this December 6, 2021, the most notable one is Square Enix has trademarked “Join the kill“. Meanwhile, Capcom has trademarked 狩 “Shu”.

Every Monday the trademark bots are updated with everything registered in Japan. The check in is quite easy even if you don’t speak Japanese like me. Anyone can do it, as long as you don’t forget it like me.

Square Enix register Join the kill on November 18 and it became publicly available on December 6. Trademarks have been filed for all categories used for the game. It could be a new project, a new IP, the possibilities are endless.

It is important to note that trademarks are not necessarily referred to as Join the kill is in the process of development. And even if it does, there’s no guarantee it will ever be announced. Many projects are never made public before they are canceled or revamped into something else.

Furthermore, “Engage Kill” can be a subtitle for a new game in an existing IP or series. As Final Fantasy. Square Enix has never officially revealed the name of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2and we just call it “Part 2” for SEO sake.

Anything trademarked by Square recently and over the next few months could be related to Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2, like game subtitles. So it’s interesting to look at the label. I really doubt we’re getting Final Fantasy VII Remake Engage Kill in spite of. If it’s a subtitle, it will probably be used for something else.

Meanwhile, Capcom registered trademark 狩 means “hunt” so it is most likely related to Monster hunter. Trademark was filed on Nov. 24. Maybe it’s something to do with Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak slated to launch in Summer 2022. On Switch and Steam.
