Endgame Director Thinks Tom Holland Is The New Leader Of The MCU

After the end of the Infinity Saga, many fans wondered where the MCU would take its story next and who would be the new face to lead them. Well, it appeared Avengers: Endgame director Joe Russo has the answer, as he believes Spiderman star Tom Holland is the heir to Robert Downey Jr. in the MCU.

For the first three phases of the Marvel Studios movies, Iron Man by Robert Downey Jr. definitely the face of the MCU. However, it appears the patronage of Tony Stark, Spiderman, will take the mantle from here on after Iron Man’s death in Avengers: Endgame.

In a new interview with GQ, Russo says that Holland has become the new face of the MCU, adding that Holland is taking on the role that Downey Jr once took on in the series. Russo added: “Tom is stepping into the role that Robert Downey once took for Marvel, which is the most beloved character and in many ways the soul of the Marvel universe. The partnership will enliven another depiction of Spider-Man, this time in the MCU. Soon after, Holland was chosen as the web-slinger curator, who will debut in 2016 Captain America: Civil War.

Instead of another Peter Parker/Spider-Man origin story, the character was recruited in that movie by Tony Stark to fight on Team Iron Man against Captain America’s team. Holland will then go on to star in two of his solo songs Spiderman movies as well as big crossovers like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. While he will return to his role as the iconic hero once again in very much expected Spider-Man: There’s no way home, Holland recently spoke out about the role, believing that this upcoming MCU entry will mark the end of his trilogy of characters. But given Russo’s recent comments, it looks like Holland’s Spider-Man will be in the mix for more MCU projects.

The movie is one of the MCU’s most secretive yet best-known projects to date, as rumors have been swirling for months about the return of previous Spider-Man actors (supported by the introduction of Spider-Man). multiverse has been built into other MCU content such as Loki). Like director Jon Watts recently compared, There is no way home slated to be one of the MCU’s biggest and most ambitious movies to date, on par with Avengers: Endgame.

Jonah Jameson, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson.

Spider-Man: There’s no way home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
