Elon Musk calls BS on Trump statement by social CEO Devin Nunes
Once the focus of rumors, on Friday, Elon Musk denied a new report that former president Donald Trump had “encouraged” him to buy Twitter.
The statement originated with Devin Nunes – CEO of Trump’s social media company Truth Social – during an interview with Fox Business Network on Wednesday.
“We are all for it,” says Nunes. “President Trump, basically before Elon Musk bought it, actually said go and buy it, because the goal of our company is really to build a community where people live in an Safe, family-friendly school, very different from Twitter.
“Someone has to keep confronting these tech tyrants,” he added.
The New York Post shared Nunes’ announced in a tweet early Friday, adding that Musk had been “quietly” influenced by the former chairman.
“This is wrong,” Musk answered. “I have no contact, directly or indirectly, with Trump, who has publicly stated that he will monopolize Truth Social.”
The Tesla billionaire has repeatedly said he would support “freedom of speech” if his Twitter bid goes through, and in recent weeks right-wing figures have cheered about the $44 billion buyout. dollars.
That has sparked speculation that Musk will reinstate former president Trump’s account, which was permanently suspended from the platform following the January 6 uprising because of the way Trump’s tweets were “received.” and explained on and off Twitter” and “due to the risk of inciting further violence.”
As Musk has noted, Trump has so far indicated that he will not rejoin the platform in any way, choosing instead to stick with Truth Social. It remains to be seen whether he will stick to that pledge.
Selling false claims about Twitter will not be a new tactic for Nunes. In early April, he announced on Fox Business that Truth Social is home to more “interactions” than Twitter, calling it “a ghost town.” That’s a dubious claim, as Twitter has over 200 million daily active users.
