Elliot Lawrence, 1940s bandleader who conducted Tony Award shows, dies at 96

Elliot Lawrence Broza was born on February 14, 1925 in Philadelphia. His father, Stan Lee Broza, helped found radio station WCAU in Philadelphia, and his mother, Esther Broza, wrote for the radio station. In 1927, his parents started a children’s variety show, “Horn and Hardart’s Children’s Hour,” which ran on radio and then television until 1958.
