Elden Ring Volcano Manor Covenant: Should I accept the offer?

When the player reaches the Volcano Manor in Elden Ring, they are required to enter into a covenant. Since the residents are described as “blasphemy” and generally threatening, players will wonder if there are negative consequences to joining the Volcano Manor covenant. We’ll cover how to enter the manor and its quest line below.
Should I join the Volcano Manor covenant in the Elden Ring?
Thankfully, there doesn’t appear to be any negative consequences for joining the Volcano Manor contract in the Elden Ring. Unlike previous FromSoftware games, covenants do not directly compete with each other, so joining one game does not lock the player into joining another.
To enter Volcano Manor, the player must receive an invitation from an NPC north of Laskyar Ruins in Liurnia of the Lakes. She asks the player to get her necklace from another NPC a little further north. Pay him 1,000 runes for it, get the necklace back, and she’ll give the player the Volcano Manor Invitation.
After talking to Tanith, the player will need to go into the Drawing Room and get a letter. This letter describes the name and location of an NPC the covenant wants the player to infiltrate. There are three of these that the player needs to complete:
- Old Knight Istvan: East of Castle Stormveil
- Rileigh the Idle: Altus Plateau
- Juno Hoslow: The Peak of the Giants
Completing each invasion will provide the player with NPC gear and quest progress. After killing Hoslow, Tanith will ask the player if they want to meet the lord of the manor. If the player answers yes, she will drive them to the room directly before the boss fights Rykard, the Lord of Blasphemers.
However, the player can choose to skip the covenant to go to Rykard. There is a room with an illusionary wall in Volcano Manor that the player can navigate through. It will lead them to a path that eventually leads to the lord of the manor. However, this was a much more dangerous path than Tanith’s teleportation.
After defeating Rykard, the player can go out to power up his Great Rune. Tanith will decide to leave the manor, and all NPCs remaining inside will disperse to new locations.
