EG Impact: ‘People always think that just because I have money, I can retire and have a good life, but I would get so bored and feel lost’

Evil Geniuses’ Impact shared his thoughts on the team’s recent games in the LCS, his long professional journey. League of Legends career and burnout, in an interview with the news agency esports.gg.

EG lost 1-2 last weekend, losing a game to the Golden Guardians, who showed up and annoyed Impact’s team. That loss broke EG’s winning streak, and when asked about it, Impact said he didn’t really care about them because someone finally came and broke the winning streak.

“The important thing is to make sure we can win. I just want to improve this team,” he said.

Burnout is a huge problem for pro players, who seem to squeeze their brains out in a small amount of time to become the best. While many burn out pretty quickly, others seem to show a huge tolerance for lifestyle, with Impact being one of those players after starting his career in 2012. He played in eight teams, EG is his newest team after joining them in December 2020. Impact says a lot of players burn out because they treat it like work, playing for money, or steady work. He also shared his thoughts on the possibility of retirement.

“People always think that just because I have money, I can retire and have a good life, but I will be very bored and feel lost in life,” he said. “I don’t want to rest because it will make me uncomfortable. I like competition. […] I don’t burn out easily because I know all of these jobs bring a sense of victory. It was the best feeling ever.”

EG is currently third in the 2021 LCS Summer Split with Cloud9 with a record of 24 wins and 15 losses. Taking into account only Summer League games, they will be second with TSM with a record of 14 wins and 7 losses. They looked dominating throughout the season and are among the favorites in the battle for the upcoming LCS championship. In particular, Impact was an important factor in EG’s performance, his high ability to engage in kills shows that he is always by his team’s side during important teamfights.

EG returns to the Rift this weekend with three games against TSM, Immortals and CLG. While their playoff spot has been secured, every win is crucial to helping them get a better seed in the fight for the LCS championship title.
