Eddie Alvarez is no stranger to the Olympics. In the Miami Marlins the infielder was once a world-class accelerator and won a silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics as part of the U.S. 5,000-meter relay team. Alvarez then resigned from the speed conch and signed with the White Sox as a minor league free agent.
Alvarez returned to the Olympics, this time as part of the Team USA Baseball Team. He was also chosen as one of the flag bearers of the opening ceremony.
Efi Alvarez, a Miami Marlins lawyer, has an invaluable honor
The US Olympic team has other more popular names. The list includes former All-Stars, players who are considered the best prospects. But Alvarez, who came from Cuba as a child and wants to be one of the three to always win medals at the Summer and Winter Games, was chosen.
His skating career halted his baseball career. He had scholarship offers as a scholarship, but turned them down to focus on speed skating. Finally, at the age of 24, after years away from the game, he signed up for the White Sox system and did not receive the signing bonus due to his relative inexperience.
But Alvarez wandered off. He worked his way up the ladder at the White Sox and continued to improve when he returned to baseball form. The Marlins bought their rights from the White Sox before the 2019 season, and in 2020, at the age of 30, he made his Premier League debut and brought the call as part of the killing of players who fought the organization with COVID.
Now a baseball trip to Alvarez took him to the next level. He’s back in the Olympics and has to play with some of the biggest players on the planet. In doing so, he once again wants to make history and try to win medals in both events.
Efi Alvarez, a Miami Marlins defender, is receiving an incredible honor as he has been chosen as one of the flag bearers of the Olympic Open.
