Eagles ‘in process’ to start hurt with Jalen Hurts vs. Jets, but also prepare for Gardner Minshew

NS Philadelphia Eagles may not have Jalen Hurts available for Sunday game against New York Jets, as the starting quartet was battling a sore ankle in last week’s 12 loss Giants in New York. Coach Nick Sirianni said he will provide an update on the Hurts over the weekend, but offensive coordinator Shane Steichen revealed Tuesday the team is preparing Gardner Minshew to start in case Hurts can’t go.
That’s what we talk about, says Steichen. “Obviously, we’re going through that process right now with Jalen. We’re working on that right now.”
Philadelphia will have to say goodbye next week, so giving Hurts a week to heal his ankle for the stretch is an option. Of course, Hurts is experiencing his worst game of the year as he finished 14/31 for 129 yards with no touchdown and 3 interceptions for a score of 17.1 passers in 13-7 loss to the Giants.
Hurts also had eight 77-meter runs in the loss, but an injured ankle could affect his ball control – which is where Minshew comes into play.
“We are going to run what we run, and I think we have to keep doing that,” says Steichen. “We’ve run football quite effectively and obviously we have to get our game where we want it to be, and that’s the bottom line.”
The Eagles have struggled in pitching for the past month, but have shot more than 175 yards in five consecutive games and more than 200 yards in the last three. Philadelphia is the first place in NFL at high speed (157.9 yards per game) and finished second in the league with 18 hasty touchdowns. The quick shot was a key factor in the running game’s success, leading the Eagles with 695 yards and 8 hasty hits.
Throw the ball? Hurts completed 60.1% of his passes in 2,435 yards with 13 touchdowns and 8 interceptions (83.9 rating). Of the 34 qualified midfielders, Hurts is 28th in completion rate, 23rd in touchdown rate (3.7%), 18th in interception rate (2.3%), and 23rd in terms of interception rate (2.3%). yards per attempt (6.9) and 28th in passer rating.
The coaching staff remained committed to Hurts, even as the noise outside wanted an explosive midfield rivalry.
“He’s playing really good football. Obviously, last week wasn’t his best, and he knows it,” said Steichen. “We have to do even better when the coaches help him there. We get those adjustments made yesterday, and then we start from there and fix it in the course of the day. later this week.”
