Donna Independent School District says AK-47 and student “hit list” are destined for another school in Texas

Another Texas city stood on the brink of disaster after authorities said a search of a private home Wednesday found an AK-47 automatic rifle and a “hit list” of students being targeted.

The Donna Independent School District in Donna, Texas, posted a statement on its social media late Wednesday, saying it had received “a credible threat of violence that is currently being investigated.” Local media in deep south Texas, citing law enforcement officials, reported that the powerful weapon and target list were found in a student’s home and that “two to three people” were involved in the conspiracy. Donna is about 280 miles south of Uvalde, where “the worst school shooting” since the “worst school shooting” in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, occurred on May 24, killing 19 young children and two teachers.

Donna’s school district said classes will resume after Memorial Day weekend. “In light of recent events, and with great caution, we will be canceling classes across the school district and staff will be working from home,” the message said. “The safety of our students and staff is our top priority.”

According to media reports, the note did not specify which of the district’s seven facilities were targeted by the threat, which was reported to the police, who then alerted the district. It is also unclear how many students were named on the hit list.
