Donald Trump-backed GOP Rep. Mary Miller beats fellow “RINO” Rodney Davis in Illinois elementary school

A far-right ally of former President Donald Trump has won her first race against another Republican lawmaker in a deep-red Illinois district, in another sign the ex-president remains firmly in control of the party.

Rep. Mary Miller, a newly minted Republican best known nationally for praising Adolf Hitler on her second day in office, narrowly defeated Rep. Rodney Davis, a five-year lawmaker known as a GOP insider Edge.

Miller’s victory all but ensures that she will win a second term in Congress next November.

After Illinois lost a congressional seat due to the 2020 census, the Democrats who were redrawing the state’s maps erased the purple district Davis had represented since 2012 and moved it to a new, very Trumpy district with Miller.

The race attracted a remarkable $10 million in outside spending and split GOP factions from Illinois to Washington. Miller’s victory is shared by Trump, who backed the first-term congresswoman; his flagging promotional record this busy 2022 season will get a much-needed boost.

Miller, who is allied with the far-right Freedom Caucus, constantly campaigns for Trump’s support. The ex-president traveled to the district last Saturday to bolster them at a rally where Miller made headlines for praising the coup Roe v. calf as a victory for the “white life”. (Her campaign insisted she meant “right to life.”)

Davis had the support of local Republican parties and many farming and business groups, but he strayed from his more moderate reputation during the campaign to win over the district’s MAGA voters. Miller attacked him for being a “RINO” for being one of 35 Republicans who voted to establish an independent commission to investigate January 6th.

In response, Davis attacked the House of Representatives created to investigate the Capitol riot and vowed to probe that investigation itself when the GOP takes control of the chamber next year.

Ultimately, GOP voters in central Illinois decided not to give Davis that chance, preferring instead a lawmaker whose husband parked his truck adorned with militia details on Jan. 6 at the Capitol.
