Both Jazmine Sullivan and Cat Doja is making headlines and trending on social media! Some Jazmine Sullivan fans are outraged that Doja Cat won Favorite Female R&B Artist for “Receive Your Emotions” singer.
The 2021 American Music Awards air on Sunday ABC, (November 21) at 8:00 ET. The musical celebration was hosted by rapper “WAP”, Cardi B. The event featured special performances by some of the biggest artists of this generation such as Chloe Bailey, BTS, Coldplay, Tyler The Creator, Bad Bunny and Carrie Underwood.
Some fans were shocked to see the “Kiss Me More” singer and songwriter. Cat Doja, take home the win for your favorite R&B Jazmine Sullivan, SHE and Jhene Aiko.
Fans quickly flocked to social media with skepticism and started discussing the reason behind Cat Doja wins in an R&B genre.
Some fans mentioned the fact that Cat Doja being put into a box due to colorism. Online users are speculating that just because the artist is black, she classifies herself as R&B.
Others were shocked that Cat Doja beat her fellow nominees and feel as if their favorite artist has been robbed.
One fan commented,
“The AMA is really racist. They put Doja Cat into R&B even though she’s clearly pop. Literally all black artists fall into two genres, Rap or R&B smh. ”
