Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch Shatter Reality In This Fan Art

This new Doctor Strange 2-inspired fan art piece presents an evocative depiction of the extraordinary powers wielded by its mighty leaders.

As a recent Sorcerer Supreme performance shows, fan art can run in a variety of styles from goofy to serious and everything in between. What’s interesting about this quality is that it’s especially good value as a media outlet for series like the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This 13-year and continuing-to-told series has spanned everything from the story of the sublimated hero from Captain Marvel to hilariously take on the God of Thunder in Thor: Ragnarok, and it looks like the fan artists themselves have been keeping up with Marvel every step of the way.

So it might come as a bit of a surprise to see absolutely incredible works of art inspired by Sorcerer Supreme and other MCU works, not only fresh depictions of wildly popular heroes and their stories, but also in line with the artistic vision incorporated into the projects themselves. Some of it is done so professionally that the international market mistakes it for official art, as is the case with some Spider-Man: There’s no way home advertisement. That’s not to say that all of the best fan artists copy the style seen in the works they intend to celebrate, although many of them are alive and well and impressive in their own right. But so much work is included in a regular Marvel movie, it seems like the art fan community is quite ready to put in the same effort to create their own scenarios.

Perhaps one of the most relevant recent examples is a work by artist Aitesam Farooq, who follows the alter ego. SPDRMNKYXXIII in a move that is sure to be a limitation of text-to-speech programs everywhere. Farooq has created a piece inspired by the upcoming MCU movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, depicting Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Stephen Strange and Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. But instead of simply taking the two stars’ similarities and calling it a date, the artist decided to take things in a more amazing direction.

Using a theme reminiscent of the surreal magic that propels both Doctor Strange and Wanda into the characters, Farooq has combined the two into a fun and breathtaking work that can easily be turned into an official poster. . Strange’s face disappeared to reveal Wanda, the image of Wanda as the Scarlet Witch silhouetted against the iconic window of the Sanctum Sanctorum, all combined to tell an even untold story. It’s definitely a way to fool some of the hype.

Another interesting aspect is that the cracks in Doctor Strange’s face seem to make him resemble both his normal form and the “evil” version seen in the series. What if…? as well as coming Madness’s Multiverse. Whether that aspect is intentional or not (and whether it’s really the same character in both stories), it’s a remarkably evocative piece overall. Just stick a logo and that’s some shiny new marketing material. (Just make sure to pay Farooq first, OK Disney?)

Works like these prove that expectations for the Cumberbatch and Olsen-led film are as high as ever. Ideally, it would be great if this led to a sensible deal between Marvel and Farooq in a way similar to how a popular movie deepfake YouTuber joins the ranks of Lucasfilm. But either way, it’s nice to know that artists like this are out there making the world a little bit happier.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will release on May 6, 2022.
