DNF Duel gameplay trailer arrives after a year-long absence

The last time we saw Duel DNF is when it was first announced at the Dungeon and Fighter Space Festival in December 2020. The annual event celebrates Castle The MMO series of the same name was the first to introduce a 2.5D combat spin-off. This is also when we learned about Arc System Works’ involvement in the game. Now, a new Duel DNF The gameplay trailer has dropped, and this is the first time we’ve seen the game in almost a year.

The game is being co-developed by Active arc system and weight. This is similar to how the studio worked with Bandai Namco for Dragon Ball FighterZ. Western gamers probably haven’t seen Eighting in a very long time, as their last major title to come to our shores was the Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Since then, the team has developed exclusively oriental Kamen Rider most games.

Like the style of Arc System Works over the past few years, this trailer is very short. However, even if it’s under a minute, we’ll see a lot of what the game looks like. This is new Duel DNF The gameplay trailer feels like an extension of one from last year, highlighting even more of the cast.

Speaking of the cast, we’ve only seen 5 characters so far. Based on the MMO, these characters have no names and are instead referred to by their respective classes. In this trailer, we see Berserker (a topless guy with a big sword), Inquisitor (a girl in armor with a big exploding ax), Striker (a girl who punches and kicks), Grappler (a judo player) and Ranger (anime cowboy).

Less Dungeons, More Combat

In the trailer, we get to see a little more of one of the few features the game knows about, from specials to special cancellations. This means that a particular move can be canceled into another move, represented by a flash of light emanating from the character. While other games have toyed with this idea in the past, this is a core feature in Duel DNF which means the combinations have to be interesting and fun to watch. We can also see an armor break move from the Inquisitor and a cancel jump from Berserker.

As expected from something called Arc System Works, the game has style and flair. The trailer ends with what could very well be Berserker’s big cinematic super-motion. We also get to see a bit of Grappler’s blockbuster, near the beginning of the trailer.

There are still a lot of questions about Duel DNF in spite of. Questions like the release window and whether this is a free game are still there. Hopefully those questions will be answered soon, because I can’t wait to go to the lab with Striker and see what cool extensions I can think of.
