High-concept horror is one of the easiest ways to make money in Hollywood, because audiences will never tire of being scared to leave their seats, and that’s especially true when a movie that focuses on a premise or concept that they have never seen before.
Everyone knows what to expect from Escape room based on the title alone, but it’s disappointing that the film doesn’t make the most of its unique selling point. It’s not without points, though, with director Adam Robitel creating an eerie atmosphere and the cast doing a good job with the material, it’s just the lack of spark that would elevate it takes it to a whole new level.

A sequel was released earlier this summer with little fanfare, but the prologue has recovered on streaming dramatically.
