Director-screenwriter Paul Haggis who wrote “Million Dollar Baby” has been arrested in Italy on sexual assault and rape charges

Oscar-winning director and screenwriter Paul Haggis was arrested on Sunday in the southern Italian city of Ostuni after a “foreign woman” claimed he held her in his hotel room and forced her to have sex for two days, police confirmed in the regional capital Brindisi to The Daily Beast.

The alleged sexual assault victim is an unidentified, non-Italian woman. According to a local prosecutor, Haggis is accused of having “non-consensual relationships” with the woman while he was in Italy for a film event. According to the Italian police report, Haggis allegedly took the victim to the airport after attacking her and left him there despite her impaired physical and mental condition. At the airport, staff helped her to nearby police officers, who then took her to the hospital, where staff went through rape victim protocol.
