Diego Luna could play against Cassian Andor again under certain conditions

Star Wars: Andor may be Diego Luna’s latest venture as Cassian Andor, but he could be willing to reprise the role under certain conditions.
Star Wars: Andor Star Diego Luna says he might be willing to play the title character again after the series ends, but only under certain conditions. With the new Disney Plus series already making waves, it’s clear there’s real truth to Cassian Andor’s story. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll stick with it.
Luna’s character from Cassian Andor was a clear standout Rogue One: A Star Wars Story alongside Jyn Erso by Felicity Jones and a few others. So a 2 season series dedicated to the character feels like the least he deserves. When recently asked about his future with the role after the show ended, Luna herself seemed quite pleased with what has been done and what is being done with his story. But there could be room for more.
“Of course, if the story is important,” Luna said when Inverse asked him if he would be willing to play Cassian again in the future. He then went on to describe how he appreciates the separate nature of Andor and Villain Onewhich appears to be the product of remarkable diversity in war of stars shows lately. “I was part of two projects in war of stars where we had a clear goal,” he continued. “We wanted to make a different film, a story in its own right, that would take a different approach to the story both visually and sonically war of stars Universe, and same for the series… We’re meant to be different. We can explore different tones, we can be a spy thriller, we can be political.”
It’s a good view, especially at a time when a lot of the complaints about the franchise include the idea that there are repetitive themes and whatnot war of stars should tell more subversive stories. But Luna didn’t rule out the possibility of more, either, and he clearly seemed to have respect for the people involved Andor. “If I ever get the chance to continue being part of this universe with a goal and such ambition, of course I will always work with these people,” he added.
It’s true that Andor is shaping up to be an interesting departure from the usual war of stars Formula. Even showrunner Tony Gilroy wanted it to be a good entry point for new fans. But there’s no telling if it will help influence future shows and films to continue to stand out, rather than rehashing old tropes and bringing in fan-favorite characters as nostalgia bait.
In any case, seeing Luna back as Cassian afterwards would always be welcome. Whether it’s another full-fledged movie or just a cameo in a tourist attraction like that war of stars VR experience in Disney Springs (highly recommended btw), he’s certainly a character that left his mark on the galaxy.
Andor releases new episodes on Disney Plus on Wednesdays.
