SAN HOS (KPIX) – On Sunday, the country’s leading physician said he was “concerned” about the trajectory of the pandemic in the United States, as a highly transported version of the Delta coronavirus is shedding tears across the country.
“I’m worried about what to expect, because we’re seeing an increasing number of cases among unvaccinated individuals,” said U.S. Surgery General Dr. Vivek Murti.
According to the LA Times COVID-19 report, the number of cases increased by 213.1 percent in 14 days.
On Friday, California reported 4,651 new cases.
“We are roughly on par with the United States,” said the University of California, Berkeley professor. and infectious disease expert Dr. John Swartzberg. “It’s disappointing because in mid-June, California was doing much better than the rest of the United States.”
On Sunday, following the announcement on Friday, seven county health workers in the Bay Area area took a full day off to ensure that people wear masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Solano and Napa counties are the only counties not included in the collective council.
But not everyone received a message about the recommendation and some couldn’t care less. Dave, who did not want to be named, said that instead of talking about the pandemic, he did not listen to the source.
“Why do I wear a mask indoors?” he asked. “There’s been a lot of information published that it’s not really necessary to wear a mask at the moment.”
But others, including Jenny Chung, kept their masks despite instructions from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, so that those who are vaccinated do not need to wear masks.
“Just for safety,” said Jenny Chung, who was wearing a mask outside while busy in Santan Row.
“Now, after a year and a half of this discussion, it’s very clear that the masks are working,” Swartzberg said. “I think people know that.”
In Los Angeles County, the inner mask mandate went into effect on Saturday.
Bay Area health officials said they would review the number of cases in the area after a few weeks before determining the next step.
