Demon Slayer Song wins Song of the Year at Japan Record Awards

LiSA’s theme song, “Akeboshi” will be recognized during the December 30 ceremony.


New LiSA Demon Slayer The opening theme song, “Akeboshi” won Song of the Year at the 63rd Japan Record Awards. The ceremony will be held on December 30 and will be broadcast on TBS in Japan.

“Akeboshi” is the opening theme for Mugen Ship Arc anime adaptation and was released as a digital single on October 18, with a physical release featuring Mugen Train Arc’s The ending theme “Shirogane” is scheduled for release on November 17. The song was downloaded 75,630 times in its first week, standing as the most downloaded digital single by a female artist in this year.

LiSA started her music career as a member of the indie band Chucky, turning to anime music with her work in 2010. Angel beats! series. She will then go on to work for many other titles, the most important My Hero Academia, Fate / Zero, Fate / stay night: Unlimited Blade Works and Sword Art Online.

In 2017, LiSA won the Newtype Anime Awards Best Theme Song for “Catch the Moment” from Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale and won the award again in 2019 for “Gurenge” from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. In 2020, “Gurenge” won the 34th Japan Gold Disc Awards for Best 5 Songs by Download and “Homura” are from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train won the Grand Prix category of the 62nd Japan Record Awards. “Gurenge” also won the 39th JASRAC Awards in the Domestic Works category earlier this year.

The awards ceremony will also award composers Makoto Kawaguchi, Koichi Sugiyama and the late Asei Kobayashi with a special Lifetime Achievement Award. Kawaguchi is known for his 1975 anime work Laura, the Steppe Girl.

Kobayashi worked on a number of anime throughout the 60’s and 70’s, most notably Wolf Boy Ken and Science Ninja Team Gatchman, when Most Known Sugiyama for his work on Dragon Quest game franchise.
