David Koma Pre-Fall 2022 – WWD
David Koma is on the rise. His voluptuous designs are dominating the runways, red carpets and Instagram feeds of big celebrities, from Dua Lipa to Jennifer Lopez. Naturally, demand for his bejeweled, body-conscious creations has grown exponentially – beating every barrier that COVID-19 variants, global lockdowns, and Overall uncertainty has plagued every designer’s way.
His confidence is also constantly growing – and rightfully so. That is why before the fall of 2022, he offered a powerful and highly focused collection, which deals with motorsport and motorsports. He especially observed Adeline and Augusta Van Buren, sisters who became the first women to cross the United States alone on their motorcycles in 1916.
Think vintage-inspired leather jackets with perfect slits on the sleeves; napa leather mini skirt with embossed tire pattern; signature evening gowns updated with flame crystal cuts; Long, fringed trims represent the spirit of freedom and movement inspired by Van Burens, and alligator motifs represent the speed and thrill of racing.
It’s easy to feel the same excitement when looking at the tassels, fiery red patterns and fierce leather splits in the new range – landing just in time to infuse a sense of spontaneity. Faith and hope are essential for the new year.
“We wanted to create the perfect wardrobe for the modern female biker. There’s a lot of talk about speed and danger right now so this feels right in the spirit,” said Koma.
