It’s almost time to say goodbye to the Pearsons like This is us Creator Dan Fogelman has confirmed the air date for the show’s much-anticipated series finale.

Speaking at NBCScripted Press Day on February 11, Fogelman announced that the final season (and series) finale will air on May 24, 2022, meaning there will be no further hiatus from now hours until the end of the show when the series resumes next Tuesday (February 22). Fogelman was joined by This is us stars Milo Ventimiglia, customer, Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley, Susan Kelechi Watsonand Jon Huertas at a recent press event. “It will deliver. It’s really, really going to work,” Ventimiglia assured when talking about the upcoming finale.

In a recent interview with Weekly entertainment, Fogelman described the final season as “the most ambitious” ever and perhaps the most “emotional”. “I hesitate to say [that Season 6 is] more emotional, because then there are 9,000 things about the extent to which people cry,” he said. “But as the season builds and builds, and when you feel it’s over, I think you’ll feel the weight of that emotion too.”

However, despite the ambitions of the season, Fogelman has hinted that the finale will be a simpler affair. “I think after a lot of ambition in the off-season, I think it’s going to be really simple,” he said of the finale.

“I know what it is. I’ve known what it is for a while. I tell people about it on the show, the actors, and I just talk about it on a global scale because I don’t like to think about it. it’s too much because I don’t want to deal with it until I actually write it down, and I haven’t written it yet. But yeah, I feel like we have the right ending.”

Season 6 is currently on hiatus due to NBC coverage of the Winter Olympics but will return on February 22.
