Dataminers Uncover Fate of Shadowlands First Transformational Character Hint
World of Warcraft recently announced Eternity’s End, the end of the story about Shadowlands. World of Warcraft The data checker decrypted the files and content, but a finding that has fans worried Blizzard may have made a big mistake involving Pelagos, the first transgender character to appear in the game. Warning: Spoilers for the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands expansion below.
Bastion, an afterlife of penance and home of the angel Kyrian, is one of the inner zone World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. In the story, the characters encounter Pelagos, a recently arrived Kyrian who has a lot of work to do before he can get his wings. Players who join Kyrian’s covenant will learn more about Pelagos after becoming his Soulbind, including that he was female while alive, but took on male form after death.
In event of Shadowlands and its subsequent patches, the Arbiter, a giant construction responsible for classifying souls into their suitable afterlife, has been severely damaged. The dialogues between Pelagos and Kleia, another Kyrian and Soulbind of Pelagos and the player character, seem to suggest Pelagos will become the next arbiter, using his nature to become or restore the automaton. This is further hinted at by the existence of an NPC named “Arbiter Pelagos.”
There are a number of reasons why this part of the story might be in bad shape. Pelagos, as a transgender person, is a a big step forward for representation in OH. The media has a bad habit of killing quirky characters to get an audience reaction, and while it’s unknown if Pelagos will actually disappear if he becomes the new Arbiter, he is nonetheless. will also be irrevocably changed. Worse still, Arbiter’s present form is feminine, and although one structure, has been referred to by feminine pronouns, means that Pelagos’ sacrifice could also be seen as a transformation.
Players were devastated when they discovered the possibility of defeating this story. LGBTQ community + supporters Warcraft were pushed to the edge of their wits in the fight for representation in Warcraft The universe. These players don’t want to see another gay character die, or worse, forced into a woman’s body for the sake of the story. Consider work countless controversies Blizzard has been bogged down in, the move is sure to earn more bad press with its player base.
The plot itself has the germ of what could be an interesting story. Pelagos has generally been a favorite, and although he does play a supporting role in the story, seeing him fulfill the role can be a great arc. However, Blizzard will need to tread carefully should that happen, perhaps by ensuring Pelagos’ Arbiter form is masculine, and that his nature is not simply to sacrifice to bring in the referee old.
Either way, it’s important to realize the data identified information is neither final nor official – it could be a red herring, or it could be cut completely before Eternity’s End published.
