Dark Souls 3 Mod gives the game a first-person point of view
A Dark Souls 3 fan creates an ambitious mod for the game that completely transforms it into a first-person perspective.
By software Dark Souls Games are third-person action-adventure RPGs through and through, where players can sometimes switch to first-person mode when aiming certain weapons. The third person camera is definitely the best Dark Souls‘ style of gameplay, but that hasn’t stopped a fan from making a full fledged first person mod for Dark Souls 3.
Reddit user Dasaav recently shared a clip of them Dark Souls 3 First person mod that aims to make the entire game playable from the first person perspective. This isn’t the first time someone has made one Dark Souls 3 First person mod, although Dasaav explained how their setting will differ from previous attempts.
After another Reddit user pointed out that a Dark Souls 3 Zullie the Witch first-person mod was created six years ago, Dasaav explained how their vision differs from a first-person mod for the game. According to Dasaav, theirs Dark Souls 3 First person mod will be a “full conversion” while previous mods used clever placement to make the existing third person camera look like it’s providing a first person point of view. “In my mod, I plan to both attach the camera to the actual head of the player, so that it moves with the head, and to have the player always face towards the camera, with the movement being relative to it, ie Strafing, don’t turn around and go forward,” Dasaav explained. Dasaav compared the movement in hers Dark Souls 3 ego mod too Skyrimand while the video provided shows the mod in its earliest stages of development, it’s reminiscent of Bethesda’s open-world epic.
Regardless of how first person is implemented Dark Souls 3, you have to imagine that the viewpoint makes the game much more difficult. The third-person camera lets players see more of the world around them, and the combat mechanics are built entirely around it. Switching viewpoints could drastically change and possibly make the experience Dark Souls 3The toughest combat encounters are exponentially more difficult than they would be if the game were played from the normal third-person perspective.
And since Dark Souls 3, like FromSoftware’s other games, is widely regarded as one of the most difficult games of modern times, it seems like trying to beat the game in first-person view could pose an almost insurmountable challenge for many players. There are those who struggle to beat the game and achieve one Dark Souls 3‘s ends if you play the game as it was intended.
Dasaav made it clear that this is just a rough example of the mod in action and that there will be improvements with future updates. There are many great ones Dark Souls 3 Mods already exist and it will be interesting to see how this develops once work on it is complete.
