The Dark Souls 2 Community will bring the annual Return to Drangleic replay event earlier than scheduled starting in 2022.
The Dark souls community is a surprisingly tight-knit group of video game players, drawn together through the shared experience of From Software’s punitive gameplay and deep lore. However, there is a black sheep in From Software’s library about soul-like game. Dark Souls 2, not directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki like other From soul game, much more heavily criticized. And for that, Dark Souls 2 has an even more dedicated fan base, one that is once again gearing up for the annual Return to Drangleic replay event.
Returning to Drangleic, as the name suggests, is an opportunity for the fans From software, Dark souls games, or anyone curious to join the community, to join the rush of players, all playing Dark Souls 2 at the same time. It is organized by Dark Souls 2 fandom every year since 2017, originally intended to create the same positive multiplayer experience as when it first launched in 2013. Return to Drangleic will return in 2022, but its schedule will different than usual.
For the past few years, Return to Drangleic has kicked off in late February. However, that will change in 2022. The group of community members running the event has changed the start date for Back to Drangleic until January 16th. It will still last as usual, about 16 days. The event will officially end on January 16.
As for why the Return to Drangleic team decided to move the event up a month and a half earlier than scheduled, From Software fans already know the answer. From the next game, Elden Ring, which officially launches on February 25th. Moving Return to Drangleic to mid-January will allow anyone who wants to play Dark Souls 2 with the community plenty of time to get involved. It will also allow plenty of time afterward for players who may not have enough time to finish within the 15-day timeframe.
Everything else about Return to Drangleic will be as expected. Dark Souls 2 Players are encouraged to create a new character to play in the game. Players are also encouraged to participate as much as possible co-op and PvP the better. After entering the game, the player should post a message that says “Don’t give up the skeleton!” by the Majula bonfire, if only to share a message of camaraderie with other players.
Dark Souls 2 may not be a favorite even among From Software’s biggest fans, but the community of fans soul-as title still honor it once a year. For fans both new and old who are worried for Elden Ring and those who want to try Dark Souls 2 for the first time, it was a rare opportunity and a lot of fun.
Dark Souls 2 Available now on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Sony officially announced the PS Plus line of free games for January 2022, and subscribers will be able to download these games on January 4.
