“The street to changing into a Black police officer within the 1870s was not simple, to say the least. Officer Fleet confronted racial discrimination and all types of discouragement positioned in his path, and, but, he persevered,” D.C. police assistant chief Andre Wright mentioned throughout the service. “He carried the hope and the religion that there can be many extra Black officers like him.”
