Moderna – which said on Friday that it would be promoting a specific omicron booster candidate – “should know about the ability of the current vaccine to provide protection in the next few weeks,” according to chief medical officer Paul Burton , speaking Sunday on the BBC. “We have mobilized hundreds of people,” he said. “If we have to produce a completely new vaccine, I think it will be early 2022 before that vaccine is really available in large quantities.”
