COVID-19 cases rising Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) Quantity COVID-19 Cases have increased in most counties in Northeast Ohio.

In terms of the actual number of people infected, the number is not the same as their number at the beginning of the year. As a percentage, however, the numbers have skyrocketed from 30 percent to 50 percent.

“We had 24 cases yesterday and before that, we were 10 or 11. We saw an increase and we knew it was younger, unvaccinated people from interviews. consultation we do,” said Summit County Health Director Donna Skoda.

“Over the past month we have dropped to the teenage years, so we are seeing an average of 15 cases per day and in the last two weeks this has doubled. We have 30 to 35 cases a day,” said Jana Rush, epidemiologist for the Cuyahoga County Health Board.

Any upward trend is cause for concern. Previous experience with COVID-19 shows that the virus continues to spread and everyone infected has a greater chance of spreading it further.

Each county is also seeing changes in the number of people infected.

The average has dropped as most new cases are in people under 40 and a large number of those new cases are from a specific group

“We are seeing an increase in Tuscarawas County and I would say the majority are unvaccinated. I would hesitate to give a percentage, but if I were to guess that 99% of them were unvaccinated,” said Chief Nurse Amy Kaser of the Tuscarawas County Health Board.

This increase occurs as people spend more time outside. As autumn approaches, there is concern that if we continue to have more cases, we will get more diseases as people have to stay indoors.

Health experts say vaccination will be key.

“We’ve had 180 vaccination clinics since December 23, and I don’t know if you can spread the vaccine around that much. It was in everyone’s backyard and the message got through,” said Lorain County Health Officer Mark Adams.

“We’re advising people to talk to your neighbors, talk to your family because that’s really the trusted source people are relying on when they’re weighing up their vaccination decisions,” Rush said. .
