When you think about Screaming franchise, what comes to mind? Probably Ghost Face, an iconic killer. Maybe Drew Barrymore is shouting into the phone? What about Courtney Cox’s goofy bangs? Is not?

For Cox, they were a nightmare. The star, who appeared in the fifth entry of the series, appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show with co-stars Neve Campbell and David Arquette and talked about trying to find a new look for every entry in the series.

“Every Scream, I would try to create a different look for her, just above the top grossing, either ugly or outrageous,” Cox said of her character, Cox said. Campbell immediately launched bangs with historic bangs, appearing in Screaming 3. They are super short and look like a frayed broom.

“Oh, that’s the worst. I forgot that. There’s nothing worse. It was a huge life lesson because that will forever be on the film,” said Cox.

Take a look below.

Luckily, Cox says she didn’t actually cut her hair into that shape, but she might as well. She wears her bangs with pins every day before shooting and this is clearly both a blessing and a curse as she wears “only one set” of cursed bangs.

“A bangs. I remember they were cut on set. You have to have something that starts here, goes back far, and that’s where the bangs are,” Cox said, pointing to the back of his head. “For some reason, they put it here [pointing at her forehead] and started cutting it and I was like, “Well, I don’t have a choice now.”

Campbell said she remembers being encouraged to be polite about her appearance on set.

“I remember that day because we all said, ‘No, they’re really good,’ ‘ she said.

Arquette, Cox’s ex-husband, said he also noticed the brutality of the hair.

“I feel so bad for you!” he say.

He also took responsibility for the look and said he encouraged her to do it.

“I have to admit defeat because of this. I suggested a look at the Bettie Page. It just doesn’t work. I take full responsibility.”

All in all, though, as Cox recently recreated the iconic look on her Instagram page.

“Not bangs!!!!!!!!!” she said, in front of a man in a Ghostface costume with scissors.

Latest Screaming The film premieres on January 14.
