CouRageJD confirmed that he will continue to stick with YouTube Gaming as an exclusive streamer for the foreseeable future.
The growth and popularity of streaming over the past decade has seen platforms like Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook attempt to consolidate the significant sharing space between both creators and viewers. In the former case, there was a race to sign some of the most popular streamers out there with multi-year contracts as a way to grow their respective platforms. But then there’s the question of what streamers will do when those contracts end, a question that one of YouTube’s key streamers has answered.
The streamer mentioned here is Jack Dunlop, better known to online audiences as CouRageJD. Co-owner of 100 Thieves and longtime streamer, CouRage was the first big name to sign with YouTube Gaming in 2019 as the video platform wanted to increase its own footprint in the streaming space. At the time, CouRage expressed his excitement about switching to YouTube because of the stability it would give him as a content creator along with the flexibility to offer a wide range of content. more content beyond the game.
CouRage’s decision seems to have paid off as the streamer confirmed on Twitter that he will be staying with YouTube Gaming for the foreseeable future. He said signing with YouTube in 2019 was one of the “best decisions” he’s ever made and is pleased to see the platform grow by signing DrLupo streamers, TimTheTatman, and co-owner of 100 Thieve Valkyrae. He added that he’s happy to be able to offer more content beyond the game between his live streams, two dedicated YouTube channels, and his new YouTube Shorts channel.
CouRageJD didn’t say how long his new deal with YouTube would last, though it wouldn’t be surprising if it was a longer-term deal than his first two-year deal.
This news is the first of what is likely to be a tidal wave of announcements from many streamers whose contracts are about to or have expired. Said above Valkyrae mentioned several times on a recent stream her deal with YouTube will end soon in January 2022 and is teasing viewers about whether she will stay at YouTube. On the other hand, Disguised Toast has announced that his two-year contract with Facebook Gaming has ended and has revealed his return to Twitch for the time being.
It also highlights the impact streaming has had on the entertainment world over the past few years for such announcements to draw attention to this extent. Branding and sponsorship deals with companies like State Farm and Verizon seemed like just a pipeline when Twitch launched in 2011, but have now become the norm with the likes of CouRageJD, DrLupo, Valkyrae, Pokimane, Ludwig, and more, promoting these brands to the benefit of both themselves and their hosting platform. As long as streaming continues to evolve and offer a unique method of promotion, this will happen and is likely to intensify the race to lock in these names.
