Cooperating with the Pence Group January 6 Committee Probably Not Good News For Trump

One of the people with deep knowledge of Donald TrumpTheir efforts to overturn the 2020 election are Mike Pence. As you may recall, Trump spent weeks pressuring his Vice President to block his certification Joe Bidenvictory, reported call Pence a “vulva” and announced they would no longer be friends if Pence doesn’t come over. Then at the rally before the uprising on January 6, Trump told crowd, “I hope Mike does the right thing. I hope so too. I hope so” and “All Vice President Pence has to do is send it back to the states for recertification and we become the president and you are the happiest” and “Mike Pence will must get through for us, and if he doesn’t, it will be a sad day for our country because you took an oath to defend our Constitution,” and “Mike Pence, I hope you will support the good of our Constitution and the good of our country. And if you don’t, I will be very disappointed in you. I will tell you now. I don’t get to hear good stories.” When Pence refused to do anything but certify Biden’s victory, a mob of Trump supporters attacked the Capitol shouting, “hang Mike Pence,” forcing the VP to be moved to a secure location. All due to being very realistic. threaten his life.
For his part, Pence was strangely understood about his former boss inciting a loud crowd calling for his death— which Trump then suggested Pence deserved—Simply said that he doesn’t think he and the former president will ever meet.”eye to eye“About the events that took place that day. So it seems unlikely, if asked, that the former Vice President, who still oddly follows Trump – and perhaps wants the votes of his supporters in 2024—Will share what he knows about events before, during, and after January 6, 2021 with the committee investigating the matter. But it looks like he’s fine with people close to him doing the same!
On Monday, CNN report that Marc Short, According to three sources familiar with the matter, Pence’s former chief of staff is working with the committee Jan. 6, “an important development that will provide investigators with insight from one Trump’s most senior officials.” As CNN notes, Short “remains one of Pence’s closest advisers,” but it’s unclear whether his cooperation with the committee was blessed by Pence. Importantly, Short can provide live accounts for some of the events that the House Board of Directors is reviewing. For example, Short attend a meeting in the Oval Office on January 4 in which Trump and his attorney John Eastman tried to convince the VP to delay Biden’s election certification. Short had clearly overshadowed Eastman’s argument that Pence was likely to thwart Biden’s victory, speak author David Drucker that the Eastman six-point plan Written in an attempt to convince Pence was a “detailed analysis.”
Crucially, as CNN points out, Short was also there when the angry mob literally threatened Pence’s life and, without a doubt, could provide extremely useful color to the committee. He can also provide details about reported Trump guarantee he was from the West Wing after the riot.
Following news of Short’s partnership, CNN’s Erin Burnett note that “Marc Short is a loyal guy…but he’s also an honest man. He’s not the type to define cooperation, even though it takes subpoenas, like going in and mocking the system and saying, ‘I’m not going to answer your questions,’ and walking out. That’s not what he’s going to do, I’ll bet on that. And he knows a lot of things.” Elie Honig, former assistant United States attorney for the Southern District of New York agrees with that assessment, telling Burnett:
“Marc Short could really be a key witness here because here’s what we know about him – he’s completely loyal to Mike Pence, importantly he’s not necessarily loyal to Mike Pence. Donald Trump. He spoke publicly, critically, about Donald Trump for his role on Jan. 6. And he was really able to bring the committee and possibly the public in at two key moments. First, that January 4 meeting…in the Oval Office. I mean, let’s not forget how important that is. This Donald Trump and attorney John Eastman are trying to pressure Mike Pence. And by the way, out of the four people in the room, we’ll only hear reality from Marc Short. Donald Trump won’t testify, Mike Pence won’t testify, Eastman doesn’t seem like he’s on his way to testify.
And then there were the big moments on January 6, when he was with Mike Pence. We know about that, but to hear from someone who was in that room — see, the committee said it will begin public hearings next month. If I put that hearing together, Marc Short is on my short list of people I want to put in front of the camera. “
Short declined CNN’s request for comment.
In related news, it looks like the former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, who, since last month, complied with the committee, was successfully bullied by Trump. In a letter to the House panel obtained by CNN, Meadows .’s attorney Written, “The actions of the Selection Committee were incomprehensible…. In short, we now have every indication from the information provided to us last Friday — which Mr. Meadows can expect to be questioned — that the Selection Committee does not intend to honor the boundaries regarding Executive Privileges. “Of course, the notion that Meadows’ conversations with Trump were covered by executive privilege is one held. Trump’s monopoly. The person, incidentally, seems unhappy with his former chief of staff, who may now be trying to return to the former chairman’s good-natured kindness.
