Control has one of the most unique open world settings in the game
Remedy Entertainment is a studio known for creating wacky games. With Control, the trend continued and was raised to a new height. The game is inspired by the SCP Foundation, a fictional organization that seeks to capture and neutralize anomalous entities before society detects them. The SCP Foundation has always been fertile ground for a good video game, and there have been efforts but none on the large budget scale like Control.
The game stars Jesse Faden, a woman on the hunt for her brother. This exposes her to Power Objects, which are supernatural items that often look normal but behave in strange ways. While a television that helps Jesse levitate and a floppy disk that allows her to launch objects can be amazing, Objects of Power is not. the most interesting part of Control. It’s an honor for the setting. The entire game takes place in the Oldest House, a skyscraper that stands somewhere in New York. It constantly shifts and makes good use of the available space.
Lots to see
From the outside, Oldest House looks quite boring with brutal architecture. However, this is only for the purpose of hiding the wondrous world that lies within its walls. Each floor in the building has different splendor that can give off strong illusions at some point, and with ControlDLC’s, with even more to discover. The top floor has the Executive Zone with suede carpet and high-end wooden walls that look right for a Fortune 500 CEO. Things get weird on the floors below. Example: The research area has rooms infected with an alien fungus and glittering growths appearing in the other world. The player can also visit the Foundation, an underground area with an extensive network of caves with red earth and turquoise crystals, or they can roam the Astral Plane, a white void with a Black pyramids hovering above.
For a game that takes place in a building, Control extremely large, and even with elevators dotted around, getting around the Oldest House can be exhausting. The game makes this easier by subdividing certain areas of the building until the player has a sufficiently high level of clearance first, allowing the player to get used to a smaller section. of the Oldest House before opening more buildings.
With a big world Control‘S, it is easy to get lost in its winding corridors. Fortunately, players don’t have to constantly bring up the map because there are signs on the wall indicating the nearest locations. Such small details ensure that Oldest House is a delightful environment to explore.

As director of FBC, Jesse is essential to all Oldest Houses. This often means she has to revisit certain places. However, this is not a highlight in the Oldest House as different areas of the building are constantly changing, making each visit full of surprises. This is seen with The Oceanview Motel and Casino, a location accessed by finding the lamp switch cord and pulling it three times. This motel operates on dream logic, and every time Jesse visits it, she finds something different in the room. To escape from the motel, the player must search all the rooms and solve puzzles.
Probably the best example of environment changes in Control found with the ashtray maze. During the quest “Finnish Tango” Jesse finds a place that looks like a tony hotel with corridors going around the back, leading directly to where she entered. Once she has the right object, however, the ashtray maze becomes one of the best parts of the game as the player zooms through a constantly changing maze filled with enemies while the music blasts. go up. The player can also change the environment by use Jesse’s powers and weapons. A thrown table can knock over fire hydrants and leave dents in the wall. The end of a fiery battle with a host of enemies can make the area around Jesse feel like it’s been hit by a tornado. There’s something oddly satisfying about how destructive the environment is that makes it trash-worthy even with no enemies around.
Fan Control It will be fun to hear that Remedy will give gamers more than Jesse’s world. There are two games in the work. One is a four-player co-op game called Condors while the other is sequel of Control. It is hoped that players will be able to explore dynamic environments like the Oldest House.
