NEWARK, NJ (CBSNewYork) – Newark is one of the major cities hit hard by COVID-19, and on Friday, many residents had the opportunity to have a day of fun, eating and gaming.
NS Archdiocese of Newark held Faith & Family Day at Newark’s Mercy House.
The free event aims to help the community heal and come together after a devastating year with pandemic and gun violence.
This is the first major community event that the Archdiocese of Newark has hosted in the city since the pandemic began.
“It was good, and in the end, we got out of the house. We just want to play with our friends,” one child said.
“They have always served the community, and I am grateful to them, you know. They give clothes, food and shoes to everyone who attends,” said one woman.
Mercy House also helps people in need find work and housing. Everyone is welcome, regardless of religion.
