Comme des Garçons Homme Plus Fall 2022 – WWD

Rei Kawakubo’s latest take on her Comme des Garçons Homme Plus menswear line is a combination of rich, weighty textures and warm contrasting colors. She wrote in her show notes that her inspiration for the season came from the nomads.

“Today, if you want to know anything, you can get as much information as you want from the internet and it’s an experience. But I still cannot be satisfied,” she wrote. “I yearn after a nomadic life where you can truly live alone, without the hustle and bustle, without belonging anywhere. It is enviable.”

Dressed in colorful coats, tight coats and high hats, Kawakubo’s models look as if they’ve stepped out of the pages of a modern Lewis Carroll story. She pairs loose joggers or wide-leg culottes with a new interpretation of textured black morning coats or layered jacquards in bright mixed colors. While multiple silhouettes are easy and comfortable, the loose fit outerwear provides a defined shape and casual polish.

Kawakubo is known for its rich use of unexpected textiles, and this collection is no exception. Warm, inviting felt and knits lend a soft touch to tailored outfits, while the addition of ruffles, tassels, metallic jacquards and quilting add an unexpected touch. , slightly feminine for the outfit. A series of crisp, long white shirts with asymmetrical detailing reinforce the hard-to-cut vibe.

The designer outfitted the collection with shoes created in collaboration with two very different companies. There are British brand George Cox’s Mary Jane-like oxfords and sandals – both reimagined with thick black soles – as well as distressed leather versions of Nike’s iconic Air Max 97 sneakers.
