Duke opened the season with 9th place in the AP Top 25 but a three-game winning streak out of the gate marked by a win over 10th place Kentucky voters have changed their tune. As a result, the Blue Devils were among the top performers in Monday’s poll, rising two places to seventh in the poll. They are associated with Michigan, which has moved from 6th to 4th, is the biggest gainer in the top 10.
The Blues’ 79-71 win to open the season against the Wildcats is one of the more impressive debuts for a team this season. Led by freshmen Paolo Banchero and Trevor Keels, who combined for 47 points, they look like a real contender. They remain the only ACC team in the top 10 this week.
Kentucky after losing to Duke with a 40-point win Robert Morris which may have given it a foothold in the hearts of voters. It dropped just three places to 13th in this week’s poll, one place ahead of the SEC’s nemesis Alabama, three ago Arkansas and the front four Tennessee.
