If we can’t get a full series of Colin Farrell flaunting his luscious abs, we’ll at least get the next best thing: An entire TV show featuring the star star in a fat suit.
After a hugely successful weekend at the box office and praise and critique for Batman, it’s no surprise that Colin Farrell’s Penguin spinoff series is moving forward at HBO Max. After all, squeezing out intellectual property with sequels, origin stories, and spin-offs is Hollywood’s biggest tradition.
Under the working title PenguinsFarrell will dive deeper into the villainous version of Matt Reeves.
Farrell said in a statement: “The world Matt Reeves created for ‘Batman’ is one that warrants a deeper look through the eyes of Oswald Cobblepot. “I couldn’t be more delighted to continue exploring this land of Oz as he rises through the dark ranks to become The Penguin. It would be nice to bring him back to the streets of Gotham for a bit of madness and a little mess. “
HBO Max has taken the TV series out of the series in a straight line order, mounting Reeves once again tapping into his fantastic Batman vision of Gotham. No spoilers — but seriously, go to the movies ASAP—Batman stars Farrell as Oz Cobblepot (“The Penguin”), an unrecognizable version of himself. Although The Penguin is depicted as a major crime boss in the comics, he’s just a chick in Reeves’ blockbuster, hungry for more status.
Reeves teased The Penguin’s rise to prominence a bit, which was only bolstered by Farrell’s commendable performance. In an interview with Polygonthe director explained that in Batman, the villain is “a mid-range thug and he has a bit of a knack for him, but you can see that he wanted more and he was underrated. He is ready to take his action. ”
Therefore, enter Penguins series, will feature Reeves and Farrell as executive producers along with Dylan Clark and Lauren LeFranc, who will write and act as hosts. Other than Farrell, it’s unclear which one Batman the characters will mine for another round of fierce crime scenes – or, for that matter, New Batman comic characters will be introduced in the universe.
When Penguins will mark the first spin-off in Reeves’ new chapter in the DC comics, HBO has maxed out their DC content since the success of shows like Doom Patrol, The guardand most recently, People of Peace.
Batman Currently showing in theaters nationwide, the success with its exclusive theatrical release has grossed $134 million at the box office this past weekend. With this penguin spinoff update, can we expect further news? This is hope.
