Two losses to top 10 teams in Week 12 led to a shake-up in the college football rankings, and the Coaches Poll adjusted the top 25 to Oregon and Michigan respectively. State both fell out of the top 10 while Georgia was still unanimously No. 1 and Ohio State took the lead in Cincinnati for 3rd place.
The Ducks dropped from 5th to 11th after their loss to Utah, which not only helped the Utes move from 25th to 19th in the poll, but also overcame the Pac-12 South. . Utah has seen some of the biggest upward movements in the top 25, with Baylor moving from 13th to 12th following a win at Kansas State.
Notre Dame was another big winner of the week, adding a 55-0 win over Georgia Tech to the record a loss that is starting to look more deserving of consideration for the top four into the week. While we have to wait until Tuesday to see what College football Playoff Selection Committee made with Fighting Irish, Coach’s Poll put Brian Kelly’s team in 5th place after the win.
Elsewhere, Michigan State dropped five places to 13th and Wake Forest dropped nine places to 21st after losing to Clemson. Despite winning against Demon Deacons, the Tigers didn’t make it to the top 25 but only finished with the second most votes outside of the leaderboard.
