Citadel Coach Duggar Baucom collapsed on the field on Tuesday night shortly after his team’s game against the No. Duke in Durham, North Carolina, was conducted. He was reported taken to Duke University Hospital for further evaluation.

Baucom, 61, collapsed in the middle of the scorer’s table and was on the bench just 63 seconds into the first half shortly after The Citadel scored their first goal of the night. Paramedics helped him off the field after he received medical attention and he received further medical support at Cameron Indoor Stadium before being taken to hospital.

The match was delayed because Baucom received medical attention after collapsing. He walked out of the courthouse with wobbly legs with his arms wrapped around the paramedic. Deputy head coach Jack Castleberry took over in his absence.

Baucom has been The Citadel’s coach since 2015, scoring 67-119. He is having his first winning season with the school and has led the team to a 3-1 start to the 2021-22 season.
