Christina Ricci Will Star In ‘Wednesday’, Netflix’s Addams Family Spinoff

Have they come up with a color darker than black? Nearly two decades after retiring Addams Wednesday braids, Christina Ricci, the actress most associated with the self-proclaimed “not playful,” will return to the Addams Family universe in a live-action show new. However, the news comes with a twist: Ricci will not be playing on Wednesday this time.

That honor goes to Jenna Ortega, the screaming queen who is set to star in the upcoming Netflix series Wednesday series, a new chapter of The Addams Family from Tim Burton. Ricci, however, will play a “main part”, Deadline report.

Morticia Addams? Guess again. She will be played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, opposite Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams. Details about Ricci’s character are still being kept under wraps “to protect the surprise of fans” – although, the news seems to have spoiled any shock factor – as she continues work in the program. Ricci has been filming for months, with Wednesday will end in Romania at the end of March.

Ricci made her iconic braided debut Wednesday in the 1991 film adaptation of The Addams . family, starring Anjelica Huston, Raul Julia and Jimmy Workman. Fans are so eager to see Ricci in the new Netflix series that they’ve started petitioning to see her in the role again. Although it only earned 630 signatures, the effort (somewhat) paid off, as Ricci joined (though not Wednesday).

Jenna Ortega, who has recently risen to prominence in horror films with roles in Screaming and X, will instead star as the main character. Along with Zeta-Jones and Guzmán, she will be joined by Jamie McShane, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Gwendoline Christie and Thora Birch, who have also joined the cast. The show has rounded up its main family, but the question remains: who will play Uncle Fester? Again, maybe not Christina Ricci.

The series, teased as a coming-of-age comedy, will be penned by Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar. Wednesday plans to follow the eccentric young man’s supernatural years at Nevermore Academy, and will be directed by acclaimed fantasy creator Tim Burton.

Recent Ricci credits include Monstrous, Matrix Recoveryand Z: The beginning of everything. Along with her work on Wednesdayshe’s preparing for the second season of Showtime’s recent hit Yellow jacket. Hope to see her in Wednesday first, however, as Netflix plans a 2022 release for the highly anticipated series. Christina Ricci Will Star In ‘Wednesday’, Netflix’s Addams Family Spinoff
