Christina Ricci cast in Meta Twist on Netflix’s Addams Family show on Wednesday

Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday Addams in the 1990 film adaptations The Addams Family has been cast in the upcoming Netflix series directed by Tim Burton focused on Wednesday. Her role is therefore unknown diversityshe will not playing an older version of the deadpanning goth she played in the original films. Nor will she play the Addams family matriarch, Morticia. Catherine Zeta-Jones will play Morticia, with Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams.

Meanwhile, Wednesday’s role is played by Jenna Ortega (Jane the maiden), who is now a teenager and attends Nevermore Academy. The show is described as a supernatural mystery mixed with school drama. Wednesday seeks to harness her nascent psychic abilities while also stopping a string of murders and delving into a supernatural mystery decades ago.

Ricci’s involvement is unclear, but gives the series a small meta advantage. And hey, the multiverse is in the zeitgeist.

The role puts Ricci on a little streak: after a brief appearance in The Matrix Resurrectionsshe recently helmed Showtime’s lively series Yellow jackets.
