The new President of Chile Gabriel Boric is a Pokemon fans, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan becoming his Professor Oak and giving him a Squirtle.

Based on some Japanese shops, Gabriel Boric was asked to name his favorite pokemon during the Chilean presidential campaign. Boric replied in December 2021 that it is “definitely a Squirtle”, hence why the Japanese minister chose this pokemon as his inauguration gift.

Who is Gabriel Boric?

Gabriel Boric, a former student activist leader, won the presidential election last December by the highest number of votes in Chile’s history. Boric, who will become the youngest president in Chilean history at the age of 36, belongs to the first generation of Pokemon fan.
