Child charged with the murders of New Hampshire mother Kassandra Sweeney and two sons, Benjamin and Mason

A child has been arrested and charged with murder after a mother and her two sons were found shot dead last week.

Attorney General John M. Formella, State Police Colonel Nathan Noyes and Northfield Police Commissioner John Raffaelly made the announcement Thursday in connection with the triple murder in Northfield, New Hampshire.

Formella confirmed a juvenile had been arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence in the deaths of 25-year-old Kassandra Sweeney and her two sons, Benjamin Sweeney, 4, and Mason Sweeney, 1, on March 3, 2018. August.

Police officers arrived at the Sweeney home just after 11:30am last Wednesday and discovered the three bodies inside. Authorities responded to a 911 call for help.

Autopsies revealed that all three died from single gunshot wounds.

Neither Formella nor the police would add any further details about the youth, citing the Youth Act which barred the release of any further information. It is not known if the child was known to the family or any identifying factors including his age.

“The charges and allegations against the youth are merely allegations and he will be presumed innocent until proven guilty,” the statement said.

Authorities had previously thanked Kassandra Sweeney’s husband and the children’s father, Sean Sweeney, for being “very cooperative and helpful with this investigation.”

“He’s obviously beyond devastated by these crimes,” senior assistant attorney general Geoff Ward said.

Sweeney thanked supporters on Facebook on Sunday for “the dedication and support,” saying that despite the fact that “things will never be ‘normal’ again, my body finally shut down and I got some sleep last night and I woke up with this feeling “normal” as possible.

“Thank you to everyone who has made sure the random idiots of the internet are properly informed over the last few days and while I still cannot confirm anything as to what happened and who is responsible, I am indescribable to those who who just know better and keep my name from being dragged through the mud and to make sure the rest of the world knows that my beautiful wife was the most amazing, caring, sweet, all round good person anyone could ever meet, and how much she loved our boys.

“It is our duty now to keep their memories alive,” he wrote, writing down the names of all his deceased loved ones: Kassandra Rae Sweeney, Benjamin Michael Sweeney, Mason Lee Sweeney.

“You will be loved and missed forever and will be in my heart forever.”

A GoFundMe page set up by Kassandra’s cousin, Alizabeth Dawson, has raised almost $50,000 at the time of publication.
