Chicago shooting: Reward offered to find shooter in Belmont Cragin drive-by that killed National Guard Soldier Chrys Carvajal

CHICAGO (WLS) – One’s Family National Guard killed in a drive-by shooting outside a party in Belmont Cragin earlier this month not only begging for justice and peace, but also offering rewards for information about the murder of their loved one.

The Carvajal family walk through the northwest neighborhood near where 19-year-old Chrys Carvajal was shot dead.

Jennifer Ramirez, Carvajal’s older sister, said: “It was emotional. “We would never have thought that we would take to the streets of our neighborhood to demand justice for my brother. It was really hard.”

Carvajal had just finished basic training and was back home in Chicago when he was shot down during the holiday weekend on July 4.

His case is still unsolved.

“Not just justice, but peace in Chicago,” Ramirez said. “We don’t want this to continue. We want the streets to be safe in Chicago.”

His family and friends are offering a $10,000 cash reward for information leading to his arrest.

“We just hope that someone is willing to speak up,” Ramirez said.

This weekend alone, at least 30 people were shot in Chicago. The incident followed a series of mass shootings that left several people injured and a 15-year-old boy dead.

Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown also joined a march on the west side of the city on Saturday, marking his second in just two days.

The marches aim to draw attention to the rise in gun violence and number of children shot in the city. That number is a staggering 200 children so far this year.

“Put down the gun. Today. Today. Forgive your conflicts,” Brown said.

Families, like Carvajals, are pushing for answers and arrests of their cases.

“I know that’s the main reason why people don’t speak up these days because they’re afraid. That’s why we’re letting you know, just to contact anonymously,” Ramirez said.

Together, they are willing to do work in the community to find the shooter who took the life of a loved one and fled.

“We need justice for Chrys. Chrys, he doesn’t deserve it,” said Lourdes Lara, his mother. “Please don’t be afraid.”
