Chicago Public School principal Sarah Jackson Abedelal charged in overtime fraud scheme; allegedly took $200K

CHICAGO (WLS) — a Chicago Public Colleges principal has been indicted by a grand jury on fraud expenses in an extra time pay scheme, in line with federal prosecutors.

In accordance with prosecutors, Sarah Jackson Abedelal has been indicted on 10 counts, all stemming from her time as a principal of Brennemann Elementary Faculty in Buena Park. Between 2012 and 2019, prosecutors allege Abedelal advised some staff she would authorize extra time pay for hours they didn’t work; in flip, she allegedly advised them to offer that cash to her.

Abedelal allegedly advised the staff to withdraw the extra time cash in money on the day their paychecks have been deposited into their financial institution accounts. Prosecutors say she would then meet with them in particular person to gather to money, in lecture rooms or her workplace.

In accordance with the indictment, Abedelal allegedly used the fraudulent cash to buy cash orders at foreign money exchanges after which pay private bills, together with her mortgage.
